Benefits Boost for Members!

Exciting new benefits have been launched. Accommodation providers can now enjoy 15% off their first year of AA accreditation. Discounts are also offered on RAC breakdown cover, bespoke maps and e-brochures, plus free access to online HR advice.

Family Fun

On May 20 the Family Fun 07/08 marketing campaign was successfully launched with a supplement in The Sunday Times. The campaign includes a micro-site with online video diaries and photographic journals. National media coverage already includes a feature in The Sun.

New National Code of Practice Announced

VisitBritain has announced a new National Code of Practice for Visitor Attractions. From 1 April 2008, only those attractions committed to the Code of Practice or participants in VAQAS will be promoted by VisitBritain.

Holiday Leave
Concerns

Employees will be entitled to 28 days holiday per year from April 2009. TSE has lobbied the DTI on this issue and we are awaiting clarification of some key details.


Business Advice Handbook

TSE’s Business Advice Handbook for start-up and existing B&B and Self Catering accommodation providers has been fully revised and updated. The expanded legislation and regulations section gives accommodation providers an up-to-date resource covering their legal requirements and ongoing updates will be provided through an email service. Handbooks cost £25 for TSE members (£35 for non members).

Excursions - 12 January 2008

This premier one day group travel exhibition was a great success in 2007. Excursions 2008 is set to build on the visitor quality and quantity, targeting group organisers, coach and tour operators plus educational and youth group organisers from even wider catchment areas.

Gift Aid Research

The full results of Tourism South East's research into Gift Aid on charitable visitor attractions across England between 2000 and 2006 are now available.

Producing the Goods

A new pamphlet from Common Ground - Producing the Goods; Souvenirs in Particular - aims to challenge the industry to consider sustainability issues in selling souvenirs, including reinforcing local distinctiveness and identity.

Smoking Ban in force

TSE supported the Non Smoking Regulations which became law on 01 July. Our lobbying helped secure specific concessions like provision of designated smoking bedrooms.

Beware of Scams

A growing number of scams are attempted at hotels and B&Bs. A recent example involves people making a large booking on a stolen credit card and then cancelling their booking and asking for a refund to be paid into a separate account. Hoteliers should exercise a sensible degree of caution with all large bookings.
